Why Flodesk Made Me Love Email Marketing

I’ve been running my design business for almost fifteen years, and one thing I struggle with is finding ways to market myself, especially during slow seasons. So I recently made a goal to get back into email marketing, especially since I’ve accumulated a good number of emails from all the past events and businesses I’ve created.

So enter Flodesk! I first heard about this email newsletter tool during COVID, and decided to sign up as a fun way to stay in touch with everyone under lockdown (here’s my first “That Email Jawn” newsletter). My newsletter was a hit, and I loved how easy the features were to use AND how pretty the platform was (a designer’s dream tbh).

Fast forward to 2025, and Flodesk is the only email newsletter tool I recommend to my clients. I love translating the branding I create for my clients into engaging newsletter templates and then handing them the keys to their email marketing empire. Flodesk is so user-friendly that my clients have been able to easily and quickly take over their email marketing and run with it; I shed a proud designer mama tear whenever I see them release a new email to their audience!

Now I’ve worked with Mailchimp, aWeber, Mindbody, and my beloved Squarespace’s email marketing tools, but here are some reasons why Flodesk is my absolute favorite.

A look at my last newsletter design and content using my beloved Flodesk

Branding is a dream with Flodesk.

One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced with newsletter platforms is that there are major limitations to any design customizations I want. I’m stuck using ugly system fonts, and content layouts end up looking basic and boring. Newsletters should be an extension of your brand, and it can be super frustrating when they end up looking like outdated, clunky, or worse - like everyone else’s newsletter!

Flodesk is a dream for aesthetically pleasing and on-brand emails! The platform allows you to easily add any of your brand elements to incorporate (including your brand colors and fonts*), and you have access to beautiful custom templates and built-in layouts that add so much personality to your newsletters. It’s honestly almost hard to choose which Flodesk template to start with because they all look so good.

Also, in terms of workflow, Flodesk makes sending out newsletters efficient and fast. Once you set up your brand “kit” with your brand logo, fonts, and colors, it’s off to the races! You can start with any template, add all of your copy and images, duplicate (and easily move around) sections, include your Instagram feed in the footer, choose your audience, and press send! The speed of designing within Flodesk, thanks to their branding capabilities, is a game-changer for me and newsletter design in general.

*(Sidenote: Flodesk already comes with some gorgeous font options, so don’t worry if you don’t have any custom fonts for your brand!)

Analytics aren’t scary anymore.

Right after you press that shiny send button on your newsletter, you’ll be able to see your stats and data when it comes to your audience. Flodesk makes analytics less scary by providing fun and bright graphics and charts (see below). You can learn how many people clicked on your links within your newsletter, the open rate of your email, which emails bounced, and even who unsubscribed (don’t recommend if you’re sensitive ha). For someone who provides newsletter design and management to clients, I love how Flodesk makes my job easy to share data with my clients. Say goodbye to intimidating platforms and hello to Flodesk!

Automation + workflows to make your life easier!

Now, one feature I’m looking to incorporate more into my business (and for my clients’ businesses) is creating workflows. A workflow is an automated process to send emails to your audience based on a certain action or trigger. It’s a great way to nurture your audience, build trust, follow up with potential customers, provide resources and information consistently, deliver a freebie, sell an upcoming course, onboard new members, share a campaign, and even make money while you sleep. The options are limitless!

Workflows are all about working smarter and not harder within your business, which is why I’ll be working on utilizing this feature within Flodesk asap. I’m currently working on setting up a Welcome Sequence of emails once a user signs up for my client’s non-profit newsletter, so stay tuned for more information on how that goes.

You can make money with Flodesk.

Let me clarify, it’s almost impossible NOT to make money with Flodesk. You can sell your services directly to your audience with your newsletters (especially if you set up some workflows), you can share your unique referral code and cash in from affiliate marketing once someone signs up for Flodesk themselves, and you can also utilize their advanced Checkout feature. This allows you to create gorgeous sales pages and easy-to-set-up funnels to sell everything from tickets for an upcoming event, digital products (think eBooks, Lightroom filters, social media templates), and so on. You can also design newsletter templates within Flodesk and sell those to your audience. Flodesk is a great selling tool for your business that’s also easy to set up and visually pleasing. Flodesk really loves its users.

I’m now a Flodesk Partner (yay!), and I’ve been so impressed with everything from the application and onboarding process, partner benefits, communication, partner incentives, and community they’ve cultivated. Flodesk is a business that cares about its users, and I’m loving the support and motivation to grow with them as a company. I also love that they’re transparent with what they’re working on as they continue to develop their tools for every user. One suggestion I would make to Flodesk is to create a similar login system to Canva so that I can switch in and out of client accounts with one click! Stay tuned to see what they say!

All in all, I’ve tried so many different tools and resources for my business, and only a few have made the cut, Flodesk being one of them. If you’re keen to try email marketing yourself (and getting compliments from your clients like this screenshot), you can use my link here or my code 9HU4UA when signing up to get 50% off your first year of Flodesk! And if you need help designing and starting your newsletter, you can always contact me via my form here as well! Good luck and start sending those emails!
